SAXONY DUCKS

saxony ducks in the frostOne of the most beautiful birds, the ducks being a beautiful buff and the drake showing off his ruddy chest and grey points. Well selected birds are excellent dual purpose utility ducks. One of the biggest problems is getting the colours right, and selection for this can lose the productivity. A great all around pet.

ORIGIN : the Saxony region of Germany
BREEDING : developed in the early 1930s - first being shown in 1934.
EGGS: selected lines can lay around 150 eggs a year
SIZE : heavy; drakes- 8 lbs (3.6 kg)
ducks - 7 lbs (3.2kg)
MEAT: When bred correctly for the table it is a full breasted meaty breed
TEMPERAMENT : placid and easy going
